Jesus, My Everything - November 28, 2021
Christmas is such a beautiful time of the year! We see the beautiful lights decorating many homes, Christmas trees are all decked out and looking festive, presents are under the tree,
cards are given and received, people are attending parades and pageants, families are planning to open gifts and share a Christmas meal. To many, that is what Christmas is all about!
Why, then, in the midst of all this festivity, do many people go through depression? Maybe it is because of the reminder of their dysfunctional family situation, broken relationships with people, remembrances of childhoods that weren’t joyful, or the reminders of days gone by when family and friends were around but are now gone. For whatever reason, depression sets in.
Over 600 years before the birth of Christ, the world was a dark place. Depression and feelings of emptiness were real. Isaiah prophesied that a baby would be born who would bring hope to a weary world. Isaiah’s prophecy came true in the birth of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, our Savior and Lord. That baby, born in a manger in Bethlehem, would bring good news to the poor, bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, free the prisoners, announce the Lord’s favor, and comfort all who mourn.
