A Thrill of Hope, the Weary World Rejoices Sermon Series

November 28th - December 26th, 2021

We live in a weary world not unlike the world Jesus was born into.  All around us are signs of distress, temptation, depression, suicide, broken hearts, sinful habits, hurtful relationships, and a sense of hopelessness.  God doesn’t want His children to live that way.  That is why He sent a Savior, Jesus Christ, into our world.  Through faith in Him, you can have “a thrill of hope” wherein “a weary world rejoices.”  Join us in a study through the scriptures and be encouraged this Christmas season and all through the year.

Join us for our new sermon series, A Thrill of Hope, the Weary World Rejoices, in person or live via Facebook Live at 9am and 11am, November 28th - December 26th, 2021.

Welcome to First Baptist Church

The world is longing for hope. We believe that hope is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ, and loving and being loved by His community of followers. Our goal is to infuse the hope of Christ in unexpected ways and help move people into action to live a life transformed.

  • Peace in Trials - December 5, 2021

One of the greatest gifts a Christian possesses is peace with God. There is no peace in life apart from God. When a person comes to faith in God through Jesus Christ, they receive the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). One of the fruit Paul lists is “peace.” This fruit of the Spirit shows up further in Paul’s letter to the Philippians where he states in Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understand-ing, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.“ When Christ is in our life, and when we’re going through trials, we can pray to Him and He hears us. Releasing the stress of our trials through prayer results in the peace of God providing protection around our hearts.

In our Bible text today, Joseph and Mary were going through some deep trials surrounding the birth of their son, Jesus. It was a dark time in the 1st century world and the stresses and

pressures upon them was enormous. They wanted to walk in faith but it was extremely difficult. God had a plan in all of their trials. He was working out His eternal purposes to fulfill His plans, redeem mankind, and bring salvation to lost souls.

  • Jesus, My Everything - November 28, 2021

Christmas is such a beautiful time of the year! We see the beautiful lights decorating many homes, Christmas trees are all decked out and looking festive, presents are under the tree,

cards are given and received, people are attending parades and pageants, families are planning to open gifts and share a Christmas meal. To many, that is what Christmas is all about!

Why, then, in the midst of all this festivity, do many people go through depression? Maybe it is because of the reminder of their dysfunctional family situation, broken relationships with people, remembrances of childhoods that weren’t joyful, or the reminders of days gone by when family and friends were around but are now gone. For whatever reason, depression sets in.

Over 600 years before the birth of Christ, the world was a dark place. Depression and feelings of emptiness were real. Isaiah prophesied that a baby would be born who would bring hope to a weary world. Isaiah’s prophecy came true in the birth of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, our Savior and Lord. That baby, born in a manger in Bethlehem, would bring good news to the poor, bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, free the prisoners, announce the Lord’s favor, and comfort all who mourn.
