Current Sermon Series "Belong"

There is a longing in the heart of every human being to be connected to God and other human beings. God created us in His image, and we are social creatures. But how do we connect with God? And how do we connect with other human beings?

You can be in a crowd and still feel lonely. You can be around people and not feel connected. With all the social media, you’d think that was not possible, but it is. We will learn how to belong to Christ and to the church. We will learn how to connect in a meaningful way with God and with other people. The church is not a building, but it is people.

Join us starting September 8 for the series kick off and as we gather in community in small groups, study God’s Word, and learn what it truly feels like to belong.

  • Belong...To Bear Much Fruit - November 10, 2019

A picturesque image the Bible gives us regarding the church is that it is a garden.  When you "Belong" to the church, you are in a garden where God is working on you and building you up to bear much fruit.  You have opportunities to grow in Christ and make an impact in other people's lives.

Many believers don't understand the importance of being tended to in the garden of the church.  They allow the weeds of this world to choke out the fruitfulness that God wants to bring.  But God brings His people back to the point of allowing us to be connected in a fruitful way to the vine, His Son Jesus.  It all happens in the context of the local church.

  • Belong...To Be Protected and Cared For - November 3, 2019

A beautiful image the Bible gives us regarding the church is that it is the flock of God.  When you "Belong" to the church, you become part of a flock.  Normally, the term flock is used to describe a number of birds or animals of one kind living or herded together.  The Bible describes Christians as sheep and the church as a flock.  We are the sheep of God's pasture and our Lord is the Good Shepherd according to Psalm 23.

Many believers don't understand the importance of belonging to a flock, the church.  They fail to see that when you are a part of the flock, you have a support system that helps protect and care for you in the good times and the difficult times of life.  You are watched over and cared for by the Good Shepherd when you are in the church, His flock.

  • Belong...To Be Uniquely Valued - October 13, 2019

Have you ever considered how uniquely valued you are?  How important you are to God?  Most people grow up no realizing how much they are loved by God.  When a person becomes a Christian, they begin the process of belonging to a loving church.

In the church, God wants every member to feel like they belong--that they are uniquely valued.  There is no one exactly like you.  No one have exactly your gift set.  No one has exactly your combination of spiritual gifts, heart (passion), abilities, personality and experiences.  When you become a part of the church, you have a very sacred role to fulfill.  No one could fulfill your role like you can.

  • Belong...To Be Part of a Family - October 6, 2019

We are all born into a family.  God gave us all a father and a mother.  Nuclear families can be a blessing or a heartache depending on the nature of the relationships.  For those who have been raised in Godly families, family life is a great blessing.  You cherish the get-togethers and look forward to the times you have together.  For those raised in dysfunctional families, family life can be a nightmare.  You avoid interaction in order to avert conflict.

The church is not perfect because it is comprised of imperfect people.  In writing 2 Corinthians, Paul was confronting the sin and spiritual maturity in the 1st century church in Corinth.  Even though the church had troubles, Paul wanted them to know they had something special that they must never forget.

  • Belong...By Growing Up in Christ - September 29, 2019

When you belong to Christ, you are in for a GREAT adventure!  Belonging begins when you repent of your sins, ask Jesus into your heart by faith, and are born-again. Once you've become a believer, you are a baby in Christ, and you begin to grow spiritually.  Peter says, "Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation."

The theme of 1 Peter is those who endure suffering as Christians will be proven faithful when Christ returns.  To do this, we must "grow up in Christ."

  • Belong...By Surrendering to Christ - September 22, 2019

When a person comes to faith in Jesus Christ, they belong to Hime.  In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, where Paul talks about fleeing sexual immorality, he tells us, "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?  You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.  So glorify God in your body."  What he is saying is our whole being belongs to Jesus Christ.  Our lives are surrendered to Him.

In speaking to the Romans in the 1st center, Paul wanted them to be totally surrendered to Jesus Christ.  He wanted them to be in the world but not of the world.

  • Belong...By Worshipping Christ - September 15, 2019

God created us as worshipping beings.  He loves nothing better than to see His creation worshipping Him.  It brings Him great joy!  When we worship Christ, we feel the closeness of God in our lives. He is near in our hearts and our minds. If we are not worshipping God, we will worship something.  We will ascribe worth to something.  Nothing, however, will bring deep and abiding satisfaction than when we worship our LORD.

  • Belong...By Being Born-again - September 8, 2019

There is a longing in the heart of every human being to be connected to God.  God created us in His image and we want to belong to Him.  The belonging we seek is a relationship with Jesus Christ even though we may not recognize it initially.  Our soul will never be satisfied until it is satisfied in Him.  But how do we connect with Christ?

To belong to Christ and to feel close to Him, you must be born-again.  This is the most important decision that any human being will ever make.

What is the greatest expression of forgiveness you have ever received from someone?  Did it come with a great deal of sacrifice and compassion on their part?  How did you feel afterward?  Were you extremely appreciative and wanting to do something to try and repay it?  Have you ever forgiven someone in a deep way who hurt you?

Jesus shows the extent of the forgiveness He is willing to offer when one wayward person comes to Him.

  • One Outcast Converted - March 24, 2019

Can you identify the people in your neighborhood who are outcasts?  Can you name  the people at work that no one associates with?  Can you recall the people at school who were social outcasts?  Are there people in your community that others shun?  I think we can answer these questions quite easily.

In our Bible story today, we encounter a person who was truly an outcast.  This man was hated because he had one of the most despised professions of his day.  Jesus cam upon this tax collector and He saw something no one else saw--a person in need of a Savior.

  • One Divine Appointment - March 17, 2019

God often gives us encounters with people He has set in our path that we never expected but it turns out to be a divine appointment.  A divine appointment is a God-directed meeting of people where we have the opportunity to share our testimony and/or the gospel so that others might come to faith in Jesus Christ.

Throughout our life, there are many appointments that we miss.  It isn't God's fault but rather our inability to discern that we are in the midst of a divine appointment.  God places you and me in divine appointments nearly every day and wants us to share our faith in Jesus with people who don't yet know him.

  • One Strong Conviction - March 10, 2019

In the story of Daniel, we're introduced to a young man with strong convictions. Taken into captivity in Babylon from the kingdom of Judah after the fall of Jerusalem in approximately 70 A.D, Daniel was chosen by King Nebuchadnezzar to be one of the choice servants who would serve in the palace. He was a bright, healthy teenager whom, along with 3 of his friends, were chosen by the king to be "re-educated" in the ways of the Babylonians.

But Daniel determined that the ways of the Babylonians were contrary to God's ways. He was convicted that he should not do what his pagan culture taught and influence others also.

One person who stands on their convictions can influence other to live counter-culturally.

  • One Happy Father - March 3, 2019

The parable of the prodigal son is a story of how loving God is and how people can be restored to a right relationship with Him.  This subject should be of great interest to everybody because we all tend to drift or depart from a healthy and joyous relationship with God.

This parable certainly applies to those who are not Christians by showing them how to have a right relationship with God.  This parable also applies to Christians whose relationship with God is not what it should be.

In either case, this story shows us how we can be restored to a right relationship with God.

  • One Matters - February 24, 2019

Have you ever considered the power of one?  Dwight L. Moody, a famous evangelist of the 19th century, once said, "The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to Him.  By God's help, I aim to be that man."

In our new sermon series, we're going to explore how to be that man or women fully consecrated to God.  We're going to explore how to be one and, in turn, reach one.

  • Is Heaven a Real Place? - September 9, 2018

God has placed eternity in our hearts (Eccl. 3:11) so that we as human beings have an understanding in our spirits of a life after this life.  There is something that reveals that this life is not all there is.

But is heaven a Real Place?  What do you know about this place people call heaven?  What is the biggest question you have about heaven?

Scripture says heaven is the ultimate reward of every believer in Christ.  Click on the image to the left to watch "Is Heaven a Real Place?" recorded September 9, 2018.

  • Where Do People Go When They Die? - September 16, 2018

There are so many different ideas in the world about where people go when they die.  Some believe we just go into the ground and that is it.  Christianity teaches that there is a life after this.

The Bible is clear about the existence of heaven and hell.  Join us as Pastor Rindels expands on this topic through the story of the rich man and Lazarus.

  • Will There Be Heaven on Earth? - September 23, 2018

In the Bible, we read about a NEW heaven and a NEW earth.  Have you ever wondered about that? What does that mean?  What does it mean that the scripture talks about the earth being destroyed at the end of time?  Is this destruction permanent or will there be a re-creation of the earth?  And will there really be heaven on earth?

  • What Will We Do in Heaven? - September 30, 2018

Have you ever thought about what we will do in heaven?  In many books, TV shows and movies, heaven is portrayed as a boring place where people will just sit around strumming a harp and polishing the streets of gold.  Or, we will be in a perpetual worship service bored and wishing it would soon end.

  • Will our Bodies Get the Ultimate Make-over? - October 7, 2018

Do you love your body?  Most people wish they could change some things about their body.  They would like to be thinner, or taller, or have a better complexion, or have no disabilities, or have less aches and pains, or live longer.

The Apostle Paul talked about an ultimate make-over that will one day occur for all believers when we get to heaven.  Our bodies will not be like they are now.  They will be transformed from natural bodies to spiritual bodies.

  • What is the 1000-year reign with Christ all About? - October 14, 2018

Chronologically, when we talk about heaven, there are a sequence of events that will take place at the end of time.  They are: 1) The Rapture of the Church, 2) The Great Tribulation, 3) The Battle of Armageddon, 4) The 2nd Coming of Christ, 5) The Millennial Kingdom, 6) The Great White Throne of Judgement, and 7) The creation of a new heaven and new earth.

The Bible verses that talk the most about this event are found in the book of Revelation.  In exile on the island of Patmos, God gave the Apostle John a vision of this time.  The millennium will be a time like nothing we've ever experienced.

  • What about the New Jerusalem, the Heavenly City? - October 21, 2018

Do you prefer the country or the city?  Probably most of us living here in Nevada County prefer the country better or we wouldn't be living here, right?  But there is something intriguing about cities.

The Bible talks about a city in heaven that all believers will live in one day.  It's called the New Jerusalem.  As we look into the book of Revelation, we learn a lot about this city.

  • What will Worship in Heaven be Like? - October 28, 2018

God has created us as worshippers.  Built into every human being is the propensity to worship.  We were originally created to worship God.  In the Garden of Eden, God placed Adam and Eve there in their perfect home to enjoy His creation and to worship Him.  Before the fall of man and sin came into the world, Adam and Eve knew nothing but perfect worship.

But with the fall of man came a distortion of worship.  When we get to heaven, all the original plans of God will be restored.  We will get back to worshipping God like we were intended to do.  The worship scene we see portrayed in our text gives us a taste of what will happen in heaven.

  • Can We be Sure we will go to Heaven? - November 4, 2018

When people die, it is assumed by a majority of people in this country that they will go to heaven. Nearly everyone wants to go to heaven.  For every American who believes he's going to Hell, there are 120 who believe they're going to Heaven.  But what are the 120 basing their belief on?

The Bible is very clear that the gate is narrow that leads to eternal life and broad that leads to hell but God reveals His plan for eternal life.

  • What Will our Relationships be Like in Heaven? - November 11, 2018

Relationships are such a huge part of our lives.  We all want family and friends to love and to spend time with.  God has created us to be in relationship with one another.  So do relationships end just because our time on this earth has ended?  What will our relationships be like in Heaven?

The Bible shows us much about heavenly relationships.  Our relationships will be so much deeper and fuller than they are on earth but...
